Moderna vaccine now available for 12 to 59 year olds in Victorian pharmacies
The COVID-19 vaccine is being offered for the first time to eligible Victorians aged 12 to 59, as the latest vaccine to be added to the vaccine rollout.
Five Melbourne pharmacies received Moderna’s first supply today – Chemcare Wellness Pharmacy from Altona, Chemist Warehouse from Braybrook, Terrywhite Chemmart from Sunshine, Priceline Pharmacy from Cairnlea and Deer Park Pharmacy.
More than 300,000 doses are expected to be delivered to pharmacies statewide this month, with supplies expected to increase further in October and November.
The second dose of Moderna vaccine should be given four weeks after the first.
The Victorians have already jumped in to get the brand new vaccine.
Esther Pardo, 13, was among the first to receive the jab on the first day of the school vacation after her mother found a date online at Terrywhite Chemart in Sunshine.
“It was pretty exciting to get, so I can go out and meet friends, find my family,” she said.
8th grade student Zach Cassar was also one of the first Victorians to receive a Moderna vaccine, saying he felt “pretty awesome to be one of the first.”
Some pharmacies make walk-in appointments for Moderna vaccinations, but people are advised to book online.
So far, more than 72% of Victorians over 16 have received a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 44% are fully vaccinated.
